This is Autism (Carol Greenburg)

Written by Carol Greenburg

I am Carol Greenburg, pretty much the same autistic Carol I have always been and probably will be going forward. I think autism shields my moral core from the nonsensical expectations of people I can't bring myself to respect. Since unreasonable social conventions have always zipped past my notice, peer pressure has never worked well on me. I see other middle-aged people mourning the loss of their childhood imaginations. My imagination, untrammeled by silly standards to which I don't subscribe, remains intact.
